President Bush Pulls a Miers
I’m just at a loss of words at the latest gaffe by our president. There are times when he seems to be on the right track to success then he pull something out of left field that leaves you scratching your head. The Harriet Miers nomination might have been the best thing for him, but it wasn’t the best for our nation. Now, supporting the torture ban might be good for him, but in the end it isn’t the best for our nation. We need to have the ability to extract information from those who might be ready to harm our nation.
This bill puts us in the position of having to lie about torture because you know we will still continue to do it regardless of the law.
Sources: White House to Accept Torture Ban - After months of resistance, the White House has agreed to accept Sen. John McCain’s call for a law specifically banning cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of foreign suspects in the war on terror, several congressional officials said Thursday.
Under the emerging deal, the CIA and other civilian interrogators would be given the same legal rights as currently guaranteed members of the military who are accused of breaking interrogation guidelines, these officials added. Those rules say the accused can defend themselves by arguing it was reasonable for them to believe they were obeying a legal order.

I wonder why McCain is so against torturing enemy combatants we capture for information.
Its either because he was himself tortured in the Hanoi Hilton at the hands if the North Vietnamese Army…or due to the fact that he broke down and sang like a bird to them when he was tortured. I actually heard a local liberal radio personallity recently call McCain a hero for standing up to torture and in the following sentence he claimed that torture has never in its entire history yielded results.
Ironic he mentioned McCain and claimed torture doesnt work. As well as failing to consider that after a couple thousand years of torture in history we are still using it because….it doesn’t work???
I guess I don’t follow the Left on this issue either.
*shrug*
