President Bush Pulls a Miers

I’m just at a loss of words at the latest gaffe by our president. There are times when he seems to be on the right track to success then he pull something out of left field that leaves you scratching your head. The Harriet Miers nomination might have been the best thing for him, but it wasn’t the best for our nation. Now, supporting the torture ban might be good for him, but in the end it isn’t the best for our nation. We need to have the ability to extract information from those who might be ready to harm our nation.

This bill puts us in the position of having to lie about torture because you know we will still continue to do it regardless of the law.

Sources: White House to Accept Torture Ban - After months of resistance, the White House has agreed to accept Sen. John McCain’s call for a law specifically banning cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of foreign suspects in the war on terror, several congressional officials said Thursday.

Under the emerging deal, the CIA and other civilian interrogators would be given the same legal rights as currently guaranteed members of the military who are accused of breaking interrogation guidelines, these officials added. Those rules say the accused can defend themselves by arguing it was reasonable for them to believe they were obeying a legal order.

AP authors a ‘Catch 22′ Bush Needs Good News that we Won’t Report

WASHINGTON - President Bush accepted responsibility on Wednesday for going to war with faulty intelligence, but firmly defended a decision that has deeply divided the country. “We cannot and will not leave Iraq until victory is achieved,” he said. The president said that Thursday’s parliamentary elections in Iraq are a watershed moment that will inspire democracy across the Middle East. But with public opinion still running against his mission, Bush was again left defending his decision to go to war nearly three years ago.

“It is true that much of the intelligence turned out to be wrong. As president I am responsible for the decision to go into Iraq,” the president told a foreign policy forum on the eve of elections to establish Iraq’s first permanent, democratically elected government. “And I’m also responsible for fixing what went wrong by reforming our intelligence capabilities. And we’re doing just that.”

“We are in Iraq today because our goal has always been more than the removal of brutal dictator,” Bush said. “It is to leave a free and democratic Iraq in his place.

“My decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision. Saddam was a threat and the American people and the world is better off because he is no longer in power,” the president told the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

As he usually does, Bush asserted that the Iraq of the future, with a functioning democracy and thriving economy, would be a model for other nations in the turbulent Middle East. But he added a specific reference to the inspiration that a free Iraq could provide to reformers in the region’s two governments most hostile to the United States _ Syria and Iran.

The president is banking on a successful election to signal that his war plan is working. If the voting establishes a successful government, it eventually could lead to the withdrawal of U.S. forces.

The president could use some more good news in Iraq. With the violence showing no sign of waning, most Americans are unhappy with his handling of the war and some lawmakers are questioning how long the troops should stay.

I agree, The president and the rest of the citizens of this country could use some more good news from Iraq. How about you, author of this AP article, inform us of the good news that instead has been neglected for the past two years! Why is it I have to go to websites like MichelleMulkin.com and Drudgereport.com to find articles about the good things that we are doing for Iraq’s future and our own?

Holy Twighlight Zone Batman, CNN is Liberal Afterall!

Wait a second…

CNN posted the above as their lead story. Can someone who is more intelligent than a simpleton like myself explain how exactly the Republicans are the ones on the attack? Its the Republicans who are DEFENDING our nation’s current position on the war. A position that was confirmed by a little 403 to 3 vote a mere 3 weeks ago in that old House building that some call “the capital building.” I’m sure CNN meant to write:

President Bush joined the Republicans in defending freedom against radical left-wing Democratic leader and one-time presidential hopeful Howard Dean. Dean said the war in Iraq was not winnable. “I know we’re going to win,” Bush told reporters at the White House. “Our troops need to hear not only are they supported, but that we have got a strategy that will win.”

Disclaimer: The word “Holy” does not reference god, christmas, or magical “angels”.

DiCaprio to Produce Environment Film

The age old question has always been this: Would your rather go to the dentist or an environment film produced by Leonardo DiCaprio? We are all entitled to our own likes/dislikes however I’m already in the dentist’s waiting room for my appointment.

He showed up at the Oscars in a hybrid car and lobbied loudly for worldwide access to clean water. Now actor-activist Leonardo DiCaprio is making a documentary about global environmental issues.

He has started production on “11th Hour,” a feature-length film that explores global warming and offers solutions for restoring the planet’s ecosystems, publicist Keleigh Thomas said Monday.

“Global warming is not only the No. 1 environmental challenge we face today, but one of the most important issues facing all of humanity,” DiCaprio, 31, said in a statement.

Low Standards

What is it with kids these days setting low standards?

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Sean “Diddy” Combs made a surprise visit to Chris Evert’s charity tennis tournament to meet a teenage cancer patient. For Chalon Keen, 17, of Sunrise, who has been fighting for two years a cancer that creates tumors in her muscle cells, Saturday’s visit was a dream come true. Chalon, a patient at the Chris Evert Children’s Hospital at Broward General Medical Center, met Combs through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Look, I’m not going to knock Diddy for doing a good thing. Because that’s how I roll, homie. If you have it in your heart to make a kid’s day then by all means. This teenager’s ‘dreams’ are a bit subpar don’t you think?
