“Pull Out” Debate

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Republican-controlled House spurned calls for an immediate pullout of troops from Iraq in a vote hastily arranged by the GOP that Democrats vociferously denounced as politically motivated.

“To cut and run would invite terrorism into our backyards, and no one wants to see troops fighting terrorism on American soil,” Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said Friday night after the House, as planned, rejected a GOP-written resolution for immediate withdrawal.

The vote, held as lawmakers rushed toward a two-week Thanksgiving break, was 403-3.

Democrats accused Republicans of orchestrating a political stunt that prohibited thoughtful debate on the issue, and nearly all voted against the measure.

My Way News

Would it suprise anyone if they heard that a 22 year old male spent his friday night watching the debate on the US House floor? It doesn’t shock me one bit because the lawmakers were directly affecting the future of my generation. Pulling out of Iraq is the last thing we need especially now. It gives the message that all terrorist need to do is kill 2,000 americans before we run away from the problem. I would prefer winning the war on terror and getting the job down. The debate on why we went to war is over. The debate on how we are going to win the war should be happening. You do not win a war by withdrawing your troops.

The debate itself was very entertaining. Nancy spent most of her debate time kissing up to Murtha and in the same sentence she was pissed off at the Republicans for settting a time limit rule for the debate. Come on Nancy, talk the issue and leave Murtha’s ass alone. In the end the reason the Democrats voted against the item was because they weren’t the ones to introduce it, plain and almonds. If Murtha was the one to introduced the measure after the political circus on Thrusday the vote probably would have been much different. It still would’ve failed, but more Democrats would’ve voted Yay.

I only saw pieces of the debate after the fact. They were pretty sad. Trying to get the transcripts. That will probably take a while.

If more floor debates were like this one I would watch more often! This definitely was the wrestlemania of politics.
